The humans and I decided to go and explore some trails down in the Beartooth Mountains today!

I was just resting up on the way down...

So much fun!

Beautiful!

I'll post more pictures from our adventure tomorrow, it's nap time!

When my dad got home from work today he grabbed my leash and said my two favorite words, Car Ride?

I was sooo excited! Until I figured out where we were going... the Doggie Doctor...seriously?!
The vet checked me out, said I'm definitely not an aggressive dog, gave me some treats and signed my release and then....

FREEDOM!!!
I had an awesome day running the trails, swimming in the river and playing Chuck-It!
So happy!

Hooray for one more day of doggie jail! My mom said I'm driving her nuts with all my energy!

Two more days...

My mom made my vet appointment for Friday so I can be checked out to make sure I'm not aggressive, whatever that means...

176/365

All this time "locked up" really isn't all that bad when you consider all the dogs out there who don't have a forever home, or a family. I'm thankful my mom found me (and she's pretty happy to have found me too). One of these days my humans want to extend our family and adopt another dog. But let's be real, I'll still be #1 around here!

3. More. Days....

6 down...4 to go...

Since I still have 6 more days of house arrest my humans got me some new toys and treats to play with...

I almost forgot I'm stuck inside...

Almost...

My dad is so good, he brought my mom Huckleberry Cheesecake from where he flew today. He's good!

Day 2 of Doggie Jail....

Humans woke me up at 5:00am - not my idea of a good time to wake up, but I still wag my tail.

Humans leave for work so I eat my breakfast, look out the window, then decide to take a nap.  Wake up from my nap because I remember my mom left me treats in my Kong, so I go a chew on the Kong to get the treats.  Go look out the window again and go back to sleep.

My dad gets home from work and I get excited, because usually when he gets home its adventure time.  But then I remember that I'm on lockdown, so no adventures today.

I help my dad work on the computer, then he decides to take a nap, so I take another nap.

My dad wakes up and decides to go for a run on the rims.  I'm not allowed to go, and I contemplate chewing something of his since he's going for a run without me, but I decide against it.

My mom gets home from work and she plays indoor fetch with me, and rubs my belly.  I get more treats in Kong.  We all have our dinner together and I get a bone to chew on.

My humans talk, and I try to pay attention and catch some words like car, outside, and go, but overall I have no idea what they are talking about.

Humans are exhausted so they go to bed.  It's dark and I usually run into things if I try to move in the dark so I go to bed too.

2 days down, 8 to go...

Bad news everyone... I'm under house arrest for the next 10 days...my mom will tell you the story...

The other night Bill and I were outside on our patio, and Max was tied up on his lead.  We stepped inside to finish up dinner and we heard a little girl crying and then Max barked (just a one bark, not a growl).  We didn't think anything of it because there are always kids running around and screaming in our courtyard and Max will occasionally bark, no big deal.  When we walked out to the patio an off-duty sheriff came running up and asked us what happened.  We were like, "what do you mean what happened?"  He told us the little girl we heard crying had a big gash on her face and was bleeding, and he said the dad thought our dog had bit her.

Bill: "WHAT!"
Me: "EXCUSE ME?!"

We both looked at Max and looked back at the guy and were like "huh"? If you know Max then you know he has never been aggressive, in fact, he has let a 4 year old boy wrestle him and just took it.  I worked with Max since he was a puppy to make sure he wasn't aggressive; you can take a bone away from him and he will just look at you, "can I have it back?"

The off-duty sheriff asked if he could look at Max and of course we agreed.  He looked in his mouth, had his hands all in his mouth and told us that there was definitely no evidence that our dog bit the little girl, and he is certainly not an aggressive dog.  He said he would talk with the family and get this all straightened out.
Well the little girl was definitely hurt, how we don't know, but she was already on her way to the ER.

The following day we had a notice on our door from Animal Control, we needed to contact them immediately regarding the incident from the night before.  The girl told the doctor that our dog had bitten her, and the doctor could not definitively confirm whether or not the injury was a bite, there were not any "puncture wounds" just a large gash.  Unfortunately for us, since she thinks the dog bit her, they have to contact Animal Control and conduct an investigation.  Animal Control needed to see our vet records (which we provided) and said that since he is current on all his shots we can keep him at home, but he has to stay inside and can only go out, on a leash, to do his business and has to come back in.  He has to be quarantined for 10 days to see if the girl develops any symptoms of rabies, however, since we were able to provide records that he has had his rabies shot this year, we are able to keep him at home.

Later last night, after Animal Control had been by, the family of the little girl put a letter on our door.  They said after talking to the off-duty sheriff, and talking with their daughter, and also looking around where she was hurt, they are confident that our dog did not bite her.  They said she most likely tripped on an in-ground sprinkler and fell onto the edge of the patio/concrete.  The dad also went on to say he has told the little girl to not go over and pet the dogs that are out.  When she fell and was crying, he asked her if the dog bit her, and since she wasn't supposed to be over there, he thinks that she just said yes thinking that in her 4 year old mind that would mean she wasn't in trouble.  The family apologized to us and said they would relay this information to Animal Control to get everything straight.

Unfortunately though, once Animal Control conducts an investigation and the paperwork has started, there is no going back.  We still have to keep Max inside for 10 days and cannot break the quarantine.  I am trying to focus on the positive, that Max gets to stay with us and this will all go away after 10 days (and after he is examined by a vet to make sure he's "non-aggressive").  I'm not going to lie though, this whole situation makes me very angry.  We had our dog on our property, tied up, and yet we are being punished when Max (and Bill and I), did nothing wrong.  Yes, it could be a lot worse and yes, it's only 10 days.

And what makes it even more frustrating is that we have had to cancel our plans to stay at a mountain resort this weekend where we going to go hiking around the Beartooth Mountains.  But think positive, right? We can reschedule our weekend getaway, and we not only get to keep our dog at home, but we get to keep him, which as you know he is the most amazing, irreplaceable dog :-)

Just a warning to pet owners out there, BE VERY CAREFUL!

More from the Beartooth Pass...

Serious wind at 10,000 feet!

I opted out going for a swim...since most of the lakes are still frozen...

165/365

The other day my dad found out that the Beartooth Pass was finally open for the summer, and since he got off work early we decided to go check it out.

Here's a little information about the Beartooth Pass, which opened in 1936:

The Beartooth Highway is the section of U.S. Highway 212 between Red Lodge, Montana and Cooke City, Montana. It traces a series of steep zigzags and switchbacks, along the Montana-Wyoming border to the 10,947 ft (3,337 m) high Beartooth Pass. The approximate elevation rise is from 5,200 ft (1,600 m) to 8,000 ft (2,400 m) in 12 mi (19 km) in the most daring landscapes.

When driving from the east to the west, the highest parts of the Beartooth Highway level off into a wide plateau near the top of the pass, and then descend to where the Beartooth Highway connects to the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway near Cooke City, which forms the northeast gateway to Yellowstone National Park. En route, one passes numerous lakes typical of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness Area which borders the highway along much of its route.

The highway officially opened June 14, 1936.

Because of the high altitudes, snowstorms can occur even in the middle of the summer and the pass is also known for strong winds and severe thunderstorms. Drivers should plan on a driving time of at least two hours for the 69-mile (111 km) long trip from Red Lodge to Cooke City. It is a good idea to check with the Red Lodge Chamber of Commerce or the Beartooth Ranger District beforehand in case of road closures.[2] Montana Traveler Information[3]and Wyoming Travel Information Service[4] both provide online information on Beartooth Highway travel conditions for their respective portions of the highway.

The Beartooth Highway passes through portions of Custer National Forest, andShoshone National Forest and near the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness.

Highway 212 is the Beartooth Pass

See all those zigzags! It's a good thing I don't get carsick!

In my almost 6 years of life I've gotten pretty good at getting what I want. Case in point...

I wanted to play a game of Chuck-It. All I had to do was go grab my ball, lay with it right by my "sad puppy eyes" and...voila! My mom was like "Oh you want to play Chuck-It"? Yes, yes I do. Works every time!

After my dad had to work 7 days in a row and my mom just got done with her 3-12 hour days...

It was relaxing day around here...

This is what 80 degrees in Montana looks like...

Low humidity and a constant breeze means a light jacket for my mom...amazing!

So Remi is staying with us...for four days!

And she rarely sleeps...

I just want a nap...

Best thing about Montana...even though its springtime...

I can still take a nap in the grass and not come out yellow!
